Reflecting on 2022 & Foreshadowing into 2023

The milestone of graduating college has caused a rollercoaster of emotions.

For myself, it has been a relief not to think about writing another academic paper or having to study for an exam. But sometimes I really miss how secure and predictable school was!

No one really warns you about this strange period in our life…

Luckily the steady flow of commissions; pushing myself as an artist and entrepreneur continuously through this transition, has given me so much peace of mind.

Traveling this summer ended up being a powerful perspective shift in my mindset during this time as well. It also gave me the craving for more travel adventures.

So since coming home that has been my intention.

The months following my trip focused on saving money. Since late September, I have been working as a graphic artist at an artisan lighting company Janna Ugone Co. I also have continued to fulfill many pet and home portraiture orders, all while living at my parent’s house. My parents are truly generous and loving with the biggest bonus of free rent and home-cooked meals!

As 2023 is around the corner I want to share a few of my anticipated plans for this new year.

But my biggest news...

In a few months, I will be moving to Australia!

What the heck will I be doing in Australia, you ask? well…As of right now, I do not have much planned except for my flight on March 1st, my year-long working visa documents, and some connections to meet up with a few friends who also are doing the same.

Honestly, I am both extremely excited and terrified since I have chosen to do this trip relatively solo and without a sophisticated plan. But I know I will figure it out.

It seems like the 20s are going to be a bit scary and overwhelming regardless of where I am or what I am doing so why not in Australia?

I will of course be posting updates on my ERY Portraits Instagram story so please stay tuned while that adventure unfolds.

Lastly, I want to end this note expressing my gratitude to you! If you have ordered a painting, follow ERY Portraits on social media, or supported me as a friend this past year it means so much and is my drive to bounce out of bed and create.

Because I will be moving very far from this country in March, I will gladly take any commission orders now before I leave and shipping internationally becomes an obstacle.

Cheers and Happy New Years!

Emma
