Australia Journal

My little watercolor journal has traveled with me for 5 months around Australia. It came with me to the beach in Byron bay, boats floating above the Great Barrier Reef, rainforests, coffee shops, botanical gardens. And while painting in these places I found so many profound human connections.
It’s challenging to write a background description on each painting. For me, words limit the experience to a narrow perspective, but the painting alone is open to a more enriching interpretation. It is this ability to connect and draw our own conclusions that is closer to the true experience of my travels.
When I look at my artwork I hold specific moments and feelings during the time of creating the paintings, but the present moment goes deeper than my memory. This is why I’ve chosen to say nothing about any particular piece. I want viewers to have their own interpretation.

This work is about living in the present moment and embracing places and people with deep consciousness and compassion.

I hope to inspire more people to pick up a paintbrush, sit in a space, and paint intuitively. The present moment is so valuable, and our society is out of touch with it. Art is a powerful way to connect back to the self, the here, and the now. Beautiful things happen when you are fully conscious.
